With Victor Pesch

Victor Pesch found himself intrigued by the Berlin Brigade’s elaborate rectangular camouflage pattern (he’s not alone in that!). He came up with a plan for making re-usable masks to make it easier to paint the coloured sections.

He carefully designed the the template pieces and the cut them out using a computer-controlled laser in a sign-writing vinyl material.

In the end, Victor found that his method was only a partial success, at best. The vinyl material wasn’t sticky enough to adhere to the vehicle’s surface, meaning he didn’t get anything like the crisp, neat edges that he wanted. So he spent such a long time carefully tidying up the areas of colour that he might as well have hand-painted the pattern entirely.

Victor’s finished tank looks great, but he’s not keen to invest the time it will take to paint 10 more by the same method. So he is going back to the drawing board, and will try experimenting with some adjustments to his technique, such as trying a different masking material.
