The Book

WWIII: Nordic Forces Spotlight
The Soviet high command had a number of wartime plans for Finland. Some involved the invasion and conquest of the whole of Finland, with Helsinki, Vaasa, and Oulu as the primary Soviet objectives and even involved the use of Finland as a launch point for the invasion of Sweden. Other plans varied between limited offensives, allowing Finland to maintain its neutrality, or requests for access to Finnish territory for troop movements.

However, the Soviet Union’s main goal was the domination of the Norwegian Sea and Northern Norway to support the free passage of its Northern Fleet into the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. For this, they initially demanded the Finns give them free passage across Lapland for Soviet northern forces attacking Norway. When the Finns refused, the Soviets instead attacked through Lapland towards Norway.

Other Soviet forces also attacked southern Finland, tying down the bulk of the Finnish Defence Forces around their main population centres.

Strv 103 S-Tank Platoon (TSWBX01)

Strv 103 S-Tank Platoon (Plastic) (TSWBX01)
Developed in the 1950s, then modernised in the 1980s, the Stridsvagn 103 S-Tank is the first main battle tank to use a turbine engine and to dispense with a turret. This unconventional design has a unique gun laying process: its fixed gun is traversed by engaging the tracks and elevated by adjusting the hull suspension. The result was a very low-profile design with an emphasis on survivability and heightened crew protection level.

Centurion Tank Platoon (Plastic) (TSWBX02)
The Swedes have been using the British Centurion since 1953. By the 1980s upgrade programs have modernised the fleet and all tanks are armed with the 105mm L7 rifled gun. The Strv 104 Centurions are equipped with new sights and an improved fire control system. They have had the old petrol engine replaced by the engine and transmission from the American M60, comprising an air-cooled diesel engine and a semi-automatic gearbox.

Ikv 91 Anti-tank Platoon (TSWBX04)

Ikv 91 Anti-tank Platoon (TSWBX04)
The Infanterikanonvagn 91 (infantry cannon wagon 91, Ikv 91) is a high-mobility assault gun developed for the Swedish army. Its design employs common components with the Pbv 302 APC series. The 91 in the name designates the calibre of its gun (9cm) and that it is the first vehicle of its type in service (1). The Ikv 91 was assigned to the Swedish infantry brigade and the 10th Mechanised Brigade.

Pbv 302 Platoon (TSWBX03)
The platoon Pansarbandvagn 302 (Pbv 302) is a high-mobility armoured personnel carrier built to Swedish requirements. The Pbv 302 has wide tracks and a high power-to-weight ratio and has exceptionally good off-road mobility, and the low ground pressure enables it to operate over summer bog and winter snow.

Pvrbv 551 or Lvrbv 701 Platoon (TSWBX05)
The Pansarvärnsrobotbandvagn 551 (Pvrbv 551) is a tank-hunter mounting an Improved TOW anti-tank guided missile system. The Pvrbv 551 is converted from the old Infanterikanonvagn 102/103 self-propelled guns. A new superstructure has been built on the old chassis with a new engine and transmission installed. The vehicle is operated by a crew of four, a commander and driver seated at the front, while the gunner and loader are located in the middle of the hull under two large roof hatches.

Bandkanon 1 Howitzer Battery (TSWBX06)
The Bandkanon 1, (meaning ‘tracked cannon 1’), is the primary Swedish self-propelled 155mm cannon. Its chassis was based on a lengthened Stridsvagn 103 S-Tank with one extra road wheel and armed with the Bofors  155mm L/60 automatic-cannon. This weapon has an exceptionally high rate of fire, being able to fire 14 shells in less than 45 seconds. With one round already loaded in the gun beside the two seven-round clips in the magazine. The magazine could then be reloaded with a built-in hoist in about two minutes.

Pvpjtgb 1111 Platoon (TSW120)
Pansarvärnspjästerrängbil 1111 (Pvpjtgb, armoured defence patrol car) was built by Volvo to suit the requirements of the Swedish army for a new all-terrain light utility vehicle. The resulting vehicle was the Volvo C303 the successor to the successful Volvo 903 Laplander,  popularly known as “The Puppy”. PAH Anti-tank Helicopter Flight (TGBX12)
The Bölkow Bo-105P was selected as the German PAH anti-tank helicopter due to its outstanding manoeuvrability. It is armed with six wire-guided HOT anti-tank missiles, three mounted on each side. Flying below the tree line, it can sneak up to a firing position unseen, then unleash a deadly attack to smash a Soviet spearhead.

HKP 9 Missile Launchers (TSWSO02)
The HKP 9 is the West German Bo-105 helicopter purchased by Sweden to provide the army with a modern anti-tank helicopter. Rather than being armed with HOT missiles like the German variant, the HKP 9 is armed with the RBS 55 (iTOW) missile system. Each HKP 9 is armed with four missiles. The sight and guidance system for the missile, the HELITOW, were developed by the Swedish company SAAB.

The Saab 37 Viggen (Swedish for Thunderbolt) is a Swedish single-seat, single-engine, short-medium-range combat aircraft. It was used as a fighter, for ground attack, and reconnaissance. It was designed with a radical canard and delta wing configuration. The Viggen entered service in 1971. It was the first canard (the little wings at the front) design produced in quantity and was also one of the most advanced fighter jets produced in Europe until the arrival of the Tornado.
