Lonnie' Leopard West German Panzergrenadier Kompanie

Part 1: 10 July 2016

Since my college days in the early 80’s I’ve been fascinated with the “idea” of World War III.  I grew up with WWII movies on the TV, the Viet Nam war on the nightly news, atomic attack drills being run in school, and the quite real possibility of being drafted into service if the balloon ever went up.

I even joined ROTC in college so that I’d at least have the opportunity to pick my service branch. Years later, when I joined Battlefront and found out about Team Yankee for the first time, I couldn’t have been more pleased.  At last, I would get to fight the war that we all hoped wouldn’t happen but secretly dreaded would.

Growing up I devoured everything I could about the militaries who would face each other, when the time came.  When I started learning about the West Germans, and saw the Marder for the first time (at a military show), I was hooked.  I’d seen M113’s (and ridden in them); ugly, boxy things that were (mostly) unable to protect themselves.  The Marder was a game changer with its infantry firing ports, 20mm auto cannon, sloped armor and Milan hard-point.

I wanted to build the first 100-points of my army around a Marder Panzergrenadier Kompanie supported by Leopard 2s.  I knew that I could never match the sheer numbers of Soviets I’d be facing so I opted for the ability to take out as many as possible as efficiently as possible – in true German fashion.

I rounded out my choices with artillery, anti-air including Redeye teams, a flight of helicopters, Jaguar 2s, Tornados and Luchs.

Now all I have to do is assemble and paint my army, then go kick some Soviets in the teeth!
