My Team Yankee army is coming along, although it’s been a busy time, so I have not had as much time to paint as I would have liked. |
I decided to go with a simple green colour scheme, as I am not yet confident enough to paint a full camo pattern. I have been eyeing up the US winter MERDC pattern, and may come back and update this army once I have mastered the winter look.
I don’t own an airbrush (or the patience to use one) so all of my models are brush painted. I decided for my army’s overall look I would go for a well-weathered and beaten look. To achieve this I painted my models a dull red, then drybrushed gunmetal over the oxidized red colour. I find the red gives the silver some depth and life it otherwise would not have on the black primer. I then painted the centre of all my panels with a dark green, which I then highlighted with a lighter green. My next step is painting the details on the tanks and giving them an ink wash.

My planes are closer to being done, I still have one colour of the three tone colour scheme to add (grey) and then they get decals, an ink wash, some highlights, and a finish spray of Dull Coat. I simply love these A-10 models; they are just so cool! |
I still have a ways to go to finish this army, but I am getting there. It’s been fun to see everyone’s armies coming together; I can’t wait till we can have some fully painted battles. |

Part 1: Armageddon Weekend – 12 December 2015
Delivering freedom at 4,200 rounds per minute
The A-10 is an awesome model to behold. It simply is my favourite model we have for Team Yankee. It has it powerful GAU-8/A 30mm Gatling gun and a mass stockpile of missiles and bombs! Capable of delivering freedom at 4,200 rounds per minute. So, of course I had to start with four A-10s in my list, I would be crazy not to. So that’s my first 20 points sorted now to pick a formation.
Continuing on my underlining theme of focusing on awesome models, I came
across the ITV, a quick google search later and I was completely and
utterly in love with the ITV.
|
What an awesome looking Anti-Tank vehicle!
I checked out the two American formations and found I could have up to
four ITV units in the Infantry formation, so I went with infantry. My
list basically consists of all my favourite models mix together, most
notably the ITVs, M113s and of course the A-10s.
This list is well balanced; it has loads of anti-tank and lots of
anti-helicopter units. It also has eight platoons for 50 points. Crazy I
know, but the ITV units are small and I need loads of them. I am
planning to use my smoke early on, to help cover my ITV advance and then
I will deploy as much freedom as I can on the unexpecting communist
scum. Victory will truly be mine..
