Assembling The M109 Self-propelled Howitzer

The M109 Self-propelled Howitzer is one of the most widely used artillery pieces in Team Yankee, fielded by the US, British, West Germans, Canadians,Dutch and Israelis.

Follow the step-by-step guide below to build your models.

Step 1. Begin assembly of the M109 by attaching the tracks. Remember, for resin and metal models, the best glue to use is cyanoacrylate 'super glue'.
Tip: Ensure that the toothed drive sprocket is towards the front of the vehicle. Below: The left-hand side track attached to the hull. Below: The right-hand side track attached to the hull.

Tip: When referring to left or right-hand side in regards to a Team Yankee miniature, the orientation is determined as if looking at the vehicle from the rear.
Step 2. Next, attach the recoil spades to the back of the resin hull of the M109. Below: The left-hand side recoil spade in place. Below: Both recoil spades correctly attached to the rear of the M109.

Step 3. Attach the 155mm gun to the turret. The recess is designed to allow you to use rare earth magnets to make the gun removable, but as there is only one gun option for the M109 in Team Yankee, you will probably prefer to simply glue it in place.

Depending on the Nation using the M109 there are two different lengths of 155mm gun, a long version (step 3b) and a short version (step 3c)

Step 4. Next, attach the commander's hatch to the top of the turret. Step 5. Attach the machine-gun to the mounting arm on the commander's hatch. Depending on the chosen nationality you may have a .50cal AAMG or 7.62mm AAMG.

Adding Rare Earth Magnets
Alternatively, you may choose to glue rare earth magnets into the recess in the hull and to the bottom of the turret. Magnets are a quick and secure way of fixing your turrets to the hulls, rather than just relying on gravity.
