World War III: NATO Forces - Book Spotlight

Suddenly a missile spiralled out of shrubbery to the side of Sergeant-Chef Machin’s Leclerc. A dull thud inside the vehicle was the only outcome, the composite add-on panels blocking the warhead’s effectiveness. Machin activated the GALIX defence systems, curtaining his vehicle in a thick fog of chemical smoke.

He slewed the turret and directed his gunner’s attention towards the missile carrier that had
attacked his vehicle. Enjoying a clear picture from their thermal imager, two seconds later a shell was fired and travelled the five hundred metres to the target and tore through the offending vehicle.

Without a backward glance, the Leclerc’s turret returned back to face forward, having dispatched the threat efficiently. Machin coldly scanned the horizon for more enemy vehicles that had to be out there.

Building a Finnish & Danish Starter Force with WWIII: Nordic Forces
With John Lee

With the launch of WW3 NATO, I thought I would look at how a new player, or someone on a budget, could get a force on the table that would be competitive, or at least hold its own for Dutch, ANZAC, or Belgian nations with some of the new Formations available. For the new player, it opens the door to playing WW3 without needing to buy, assemble or paint too much and get into playing the game quicker...

With the launch of WW3 Nordic, I thought I would look at how a new player, or someone on a budget, could get a force on the table that would be competitive, or at least hold its own with new equipment such as the S-Tank and Centurion.  For the new player, it opens the door to playing WW3 without needing to buy, assemble or paint too much and get into playing the game quicker...

NATO - New Missiles
With John Lee

With the launch of WW3: NATO comes the new Eryx missile and upgraded Milan 2, HOT 2 and Dragon 2 missiles. Let’s look at which nations get access to what missile and for the Eryx missile, how to get the teams if you already have existing French and/or Canadian infantry platoons...

Tank Comparison - NATO Heavy Hitters
With John Lee

When Red Dawn was released late last year, I wrote an article comparing the latest Soviet tanks, and with the release of the Leclerc in the NATO release, I thought it would be a great opportunity to compare the four NATO Heavy Hitters (Leclerc, Leopard 2A5, M1A1HC and Challenger (ROMOR))!

Maple Leaves On Wheels!
With Livio Tonazzo

The new book World War III: Born contains many new features and some completely new Formations for all the nations featured in the book. Canada is no exception and can count on two very fascinating (light) armoured Formations. These are Cougar Armored Squadron and Coyote Armored Squadron. These are two very similar Formations which however differ from the armoured vehicle used, as the name suggests...

With the release of WW3 Nato Forces, comes the exciting inclusion of several new options for the Canadians. In this article I am going to take a look at the history of the Canadian airborne regiment, and an exciting list for its use in both attack and defense...

NATO Forces in Canada

The new Nordic Forces is a particularly interesting book. In fact, it includes the rules for bringing the Scandinavian nations to the tables of WW3: Team Yankee. All in all, these are little-known armies, with unique and particular equipment... for this very reason, they are so fascinating! Everyone knows the Abrams and the Leopard 2, maybe someone knows the Chieftain but who has ever heard of the STRV-103 S Tank? The Finnish army, unlike the Swedish one, could not rely on its own industry to develop domestic equipment and you must therefore turn to foreign markets...

Leclerc Escadron Blindé – The Modern Cuirassier
With Adam Brooker

As a French TY player, this must be one of the most anticipated new miniatures coming out for the French in the new NATO Forces book. It is such a wonderful model, Tim Adcock has knocked it out of the park with this one, if you haven’t heard of Tim, you should be very familiar with his work, as he designs most of the wonderful new plastic kits that Battlefront brings out these days. I for one am very grateful for the work he has put into this kit, it's fabulous!

The VBL – Illuminating the Battlefield

One of the most fun French lists from the previous Free Nations book has just got even more fun! They have added these wonderful little scout cars in the form of the VBL Patrouille D’eclairage de Cavalarie (Discovery/Illumination Cavalry Patrol), which apart from being wonderful little models, are cheap and have doubled the size of the AMX-10RC Formation, the Escadron de Cavalerie...

Fielding French Infantry in World War III
With The Little General

Many of you know me by my reputation as a French General and leader of combined arms forces. Although much has changed recently in today’s Armee De Terre (French Land Army), I have an intimate knowledge of what it takes to get the best out of mother France’s finest conscripts...

Hidden Among The Tulips
With Livio Tonazzo

The new book World War III: NATO Forces introduces many new Units and Formations. Some novelties also involve the Dutch, and some of them are particularly succulent. Leopard 2A5 and Apache are the latest boast of the western war industry and now they are also available in orange! One of the Formations that has not received any retouching is instead the Verkennings Eskadron, i.e. the scouting squadron that has remained completely unchanged. However, it is precisely this Formation that is the protagonist of this article...

The Thunder From Down Under
With For Warned Forearmed

Hi all, and welcome to a brief overview of Australian military history as part of the new NATO release with your local S2 (Intelligence Officer). Today, we are talking about the Thunder From Down Under, Australian armed forces, specifically, the units that makeup Australia’s 1st brigade (the majority of these units either being mechanised or armoured). These main units at the time were the 1st Armoured Regiment, 2nd Calvary Regiment and 5/7 Royal Australian Regiment (infantry). We will also have a list that incorporates all three units and some tactics to use with that list...

Courage – the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in NATO – WW3

Courage – the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in NATO – WW3
With Garry Wait

In the new NATO Forces book, players have access to an exciting new unit to choose two different Formations from, which coincidentally represent parts of the same regiment – the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. This was the largest Cavalry (or light reconnaissance) regiment in the Australian Defence Force at this time as it was the only force maintained with two “sabre” or combat squadrons and a headquarters. Other units like B Squadron, 3/4th Cavalry Regiment or the Tenth Light Horse (a Reserve or part-time unit) featured only a single sabre squadron in this period and had less manning and less equipment such as Milan...
