Demo games at Showcase Comics
Team Yankee
John, Lonnie and Matt were at one of their local FLGS – Showcase Comics in Swarthmore, PA, to show off Team Yankee. They had around 18 active players throughout the evening, playing games on a nice big 8' x 4' table. Their first impressions were that Team Yankee features lots of death and destruction, that helicopters kill lots, and that the Soviets (this time) won more than the USA - but to be fair, they did have more stuff on the table.

Did someone say AH-1 Cobra?

Aaron takes a look at this iconic helicopter and how to build it. In this first part he covers building the fusilage and attaching the included magnets for the flight stand and rotor blades. A second part, where Aaron shows how to build the rotors and weapons, will follow soon.

New Dogs for Old Tricks
Team Yankee

A lot of requests have come in from veteran Flames Of War players for a list of differences between the rule set they are familiar with, and the new Team Yankee rules. Between assembling T-72s and recording how-to-play videos, Phil has written this introductory guide.

So much hobby work in progress!
Team Yankee

I snuck away from adding content to the site for a few minutes to capture these shots of a herd of gamers in their natural habitat, gathered round the communal hobby table. An impressive site indeed.

You can see Phils army almost assembled below and as I type this he is off playing a game. You can also see Casey's improvised airbrushing station. James is just finishing up a video with a little more discussion of where we are all at with our work.

Casey's painting progress
Soviet

Casey reports in on his weekend's painting progress:

Most of yesterday was spent assembling BMP-2s and T-72’s.

Today, to break things up a bit, I busted out the airbrush to get a bit of paint on the vehicles and was surprised at the amount I was able to achieve. My basic process to paint these tanks is to prime them black, airbrush a dark green base coat, followed by a magic wash and panel fading with a lighter green. The BMPs have made it to the magic wash stage, while the tanks have progressed to the panel-fading stage. They are still quite flat, so the next stage will be a gloss varnish followed by decals and an oil pinwash.

You’ll notice that the tracks have been painted as well. For the BMPs I’ve pre-weathered the bottom of the hull with brown and dusty colours before airbrushing the road wheels. For speed I’m painting as much as I can with an airbrush.

Yesterday we took a hurried white table photo of the yellow & green tanks I’ve been working on. I had a bit of time so I thought I’d take some better ones today. So far I’ve painted my Shilkas and Gophers. Its a bit more time-consuming than painting plain green, but I think its worth the effort

Phil interviews Harold Coyle
Team Yankee

Phil spoke to Harold Coyle, author of the Team Yankee novel, via Skype. You can see a fairly brief excerpt from the interview here, and we will bring you the full conversation next week – either as videos or a podcast, or perhaps both.

Unfortunately the video quality isn't perfect, but it's a very interesting conversation, and we're absolutely thrilled to be able to share it with you (not least because the first time we tried to record it, the resulting video file had no sound! Nightmare!)

The end of the beginning
Team Yankee

Armageddon is over... more or less. It's Sunday night here in New Zealand, and the studio guys have all called it quits for the weekend. We recorded quite a lot of content that we didn't have time to share with you yet. So over the next week (and indeed probably right up to Christmas) we will have what we are going to call Armageddon Extras - more videos, photos and content, including a few more assembly videos, a battle report, and the rest of Phil's interview with Harold Coyle. And don't forget to enter our competitions – we won't be ending them until some time Monday NZ time, to make sure you have a good chance to enter, wherever you are in the world. We want to give you free toys!

Thanks for sharing Armageddon with us.
