German Status Report Turn 1

26 June 1944

Army Group Centre Field Status Report

It is with great pride that I can report the large number of successes as a result of our counter offensive operations in Byelorussia.

The Soviet northern thrust into Lepel, which our spies reported as nothing more then sabre rattling, proved to be a strongly supported attack. The HQ commander assigned to the province lacked the necessary qualities to win the battle and retreated back to Berezino. I have already drafted orders to retake of Berezino and have little concern it will return to German control.

The fighting around Mogilev proved to be particularly fierce with my own command group coming under attack. Due to the inexperience of my junior commanders we were forced to relocate to the province of Berezino. This, unfortunately, allowed the Red Army to capture Bykhov and surround Mogilev. In a stunningly successful counterattack following my explicit orders, Bykhov was retaken by General Perry. The gap in the Russian forces was quickly exploited by General Duncan who successfully recaptured Gorki as well as Slavgorod and is currently rebuilding the defensive line.

The commanders of the southern part of the line successfully implemented my strategies. General Camel recaptured Berizina and Field Commander Sadler (an untrustworthy, yet competent commander) captured Zholbin. Contrary to my orders, General Yates mounted an unauthorised attack from the Karpilovka marshes across our defensive works. This ill fated attack was not only beaten back but the subsequent loss of unit cohesion led to the loss of Karpilovka. General Yates has been assigned one of Herr Himmler’s valuable motivational officers and I can only hope that he will not be required to leave the service of the Fuhrer in the near future.

In summation, we have stymied the Soviet thrust as ordered. We are preparing to cut off the Soviet spearhead and will be well placed to begin the offensive with the fresh divisions that I have requisitioned for the task.

As ever your loyal servant,
