Wayne Prepares for FlamesCon 2017

Wayne Prepares for FlamesCon 2017
I’m heading to Flamescon this weekend for my first Team Yankee tournament. Since I’d been playing a lot of games with my Soviet Tank Battalion during the Red Thunder campaign, I’ve decided to take my West Germans. However, with the tournament being 80 points my 100 points of West Germans was a bit hard to shave down, it being built around seven Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

This needed a rethink without overburdening myself to too much to paint. Luckily I’ve been squirreling away a reasonable collection of West German models, so I had most of what I needed on hand available to paint.
This is the force I’ll be taking:

Leopard 2 Panzer Kompanie

  Panzeraufklärungs Kompanie

1x Leopard 2

11 points 1x Leopard 1 3 points

Leopard 2 Panzer Zug

  Leopard 1 Panzer Zug

3x Leopard 2

33 points 3x Leopard 1 9 points

Marder Panzergrenadier Zug

  Luchs Späh Trupp

3x MG3 team with Panzerfaust 44 anti-tank rocket

7 points 2x Luchs 1 point

2x Milan missile team

  Luchs Späh Trupp

3x Marder

  2x Luchs 1 point

Gepard FlaKpanzer Batterie

  Luchs Späh Trupp

Most of this I have painted, so from this I needed to paint 4x Leopard 1, 2x Jaguar 1 and 2x Luchs. The Leopard 1 tanks and Jaguar 1 Jagdpanzers I already had assembled, but for the Luchs I didn’t have the additional models. I checked with Chris to see if there were some in the studio stash I could grab. I was in luck, there was a box of four. This was more than I needed, but since I’d started down the path I thought I might as well jump in with both feet into the Panzeraufklärungs Kompanie pool.

I got stuck in to painting the Leopard 1s and Jaguar 1s right away. Following Aaron’s handy PDF camouflage templates I soon knocked out the basic paint scheme with my airbrush. Early this week I finished the Luchs. I had hoped to paint up an objective or two, but looks like I’ve run out of time.

Next time I’ll let you know how I got on.
